Senior Chief Petty Officer (OR-8) Johnny Grøneng Aase holds a degrees in Aerospace engineering, and in electronics and instrumentation, and he is currently finishing his PhD analyzing maritime activities in the Arctic and Antarctica using AIS and Copernicus satellite data at the University of Tasmania in Hobart. He has experience as a petroleum industry development engineer at Norsk Elektro Optikk AS. While working at the Institute for Space Research at University of Calgary, he developed prototype particle detectors for US and Japanese scientific rockets, the three satellites in ESAs Swarm mission, and led a scientific expedition to the Canadian Arctic.
Aase has served with the Norwegian Armed Forces since 2009. He has been involved in several SATCOM CD&E activities. Aase has lead the Norwegian delegation to NATO Satellite Capability Team, and participated in ACT’s assessment of the threats and vulnerabilities NATO satellite communications may encounter through 2040.
Aase is currently serving at the Norwegian Defense University College.
