Mario Beccia has been NATO’s Deputy CIO for Cybersecurity since February 2022, having previously served as the Head of the Strategic Support branch in the Office of the CIO at NATO HQ, working on improving coherence of ICT services across the Organization and improving the Enterprise cybersecurity posture.
His previous NATO appointments include, since 2006, NATO Communications and Informations Agency where he supported the creation of several Cyber Defence information exchange programs (including the NATO Industry Cyber Partnership), NCIRC and NATO Allied Command Transformation. In all his capacities, he set up and ran capability development projects and projects aimed at business transformation and modernization.
He has also served as technical director for the Cyber Coalition exercise and led the Cyber Defence track of CWIX exercise. He set up the Cyber Defence track of ACT’s TIDE Sprint and the Cyber Defence portion of the FFCI (NATO’s Framework For Collaborative Interaction, aimed at enabling knowledge exchange between NATO and industry).
Between 2018 and 2021, he worked at the European Defence Agency as Chief Information Security Officer and Project Officer Cyber Defence, leading the creation of a cybersecurity practice in the Agency, creation of a stronger classified information management ecosystem and the cyber defence program of the Agency. He was in charge of several cross-domain and multinational projects under the PESCO framework and other multinational initiatives. In 2020, he started the milCERTs Interactive Conference, a yearly cybersecurity exercise and conference aimed at creating a stronger military CERT interaction between EU military entities.
He holds a university degree in Economics and Management, an MBA in management of innovation, and several certifications in cybersecurity and information technology (PMP, CISM, CISSP, CCSP, ITIL, TOGAF).
